I Love to Tell the Story

I recently came upon this song again and the lyrics touched me in a new and fresh way. They have so much more meaning to me now. I pray they will instill in you like they have in me a fresh and satisfying reminder of a love for the story of the Gospel every day. Now even more I understand why John Piper says, “Preach the Gospel to yourself everyday”. Why? Because “it satisfies my longings as nothing else can do” and faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ (Rom 10:17).

I LOVE TO TELL THE STORYWords: A. Katherine Hankey, 1866. Music: William G. Fischer

I love to tell the story of unseen things above,
Of Jesus and His glory, of Jesus and His love.
I love to tell the story, because I know ’tis true;
It satisfies my longings as nothing else can do.

Refrain

I love to tell the story, ’twill be my theme in glory,
To tell the old, old story of Jesus and His love.

I love to tell the story; more wonderful it seems
Than all the golden fancies of all our golden dreams.
I love to tell the story, it did so much for me;
And that is just the reason I tell it now to thee.

Refrain

I love to tell the story; ’tis pleasant to repeat
What seems, each time I tell it, more wonderfully sweet.
I love to tell the story, for some have never heard
The message of salvation from God’s own holy Word.

Refrain

I love to tell the story, for those who know it best
Seem hungering and thirsting to hear it like the rest.
And when, in scenes of glory, I sing the new, new song,
’Twill be the old, old story that I have loved so long.

Refrain

    Thank you for that! It is such a great reminder of what a great “old story” it is!!! I pray it never gets old in our hearts!

    You’re welcome Allie! We do need a daily, no by the second, reminder of the Gospel and of what Christ has done for us! I pray too angel. I love you so much and pray that Christ will be at the center of our marriage and that the Gospel would be our joy.
