Yes that’s right, we are having a little baby girl! Allie and I were totally surprised! It’s been 20 weeks now and Allie has been holding on to old wives’ tails, superstitions, internet jargon, family advice, and gut feelings. But this was a pleasant reminder that no human device is fail-proof. God knew exactly what we were having and He planned it that way too. We loomed in the waiting room for what seemed like an hour and finally got called in. Then the Ultrasound Tech had a friend visit and see her work place so that just added to our impatience and excitement. Finally, she began to examine our little baby to check for any early signs of down syndrome, missing extremities, or undeveloped organs. She described everything with one simple word, “Perfect!” That took a huge load off of our shoulders. At that point I didn’t care what the sex of the baby was, I was just relieved that God had given us, so far, a healthy baby. Then the news came when Allie blurted out something like, “can you see, can you tell?” To which the Tech replied, “what do you think?” Allie and I both said, “well we think its a boy.” Nothing could’ve prepared us for her response: “Nope, its a girl!” I gasped and Allie screamed “you’re kidding you’re kidding, are you sure?”
The whole rest of the time Allie was so hilarious, asking the Tech skeptically “are you sure?” We were given half a dozen pictures of our little healthy “girl” and had to wait for our normal check-up. We were able to hear the heartbeat and it was like music to our ears. Then we were sent back out to wait because the Tech wanted to get more pics of the baby’s spine just to check. Well the spine looked great, but Allie just had to know again, “on a scale of 1-10 how sure are you that its a girl?” Honestly, I was glad she asked because I was just as skeptical. The tech, who has been doing this every week for 20 years, said “100% sure, its definitely a girl”! We couldn’t believe it. We were so happy to have a girl. We would have been happy with a boy too. But I think deep down we were both hoping for a little girl. So thank you God for our gracious little gift. Thank you everyone for your prayers and thoughts. And enjoy the pics…
