Mormon Debate at Burger King

I stumbled upon this video at Youtube and was a bit baffled. First of all the title “A Christian OWNS 2 Jehovah’s Witnesses in a Burger King parking lot” interested me. (They are actually 2 Mormons). Although it did seem a bit prideful. Of course the people in the video might’ve had nothing to do with the title. Although as you watch this video (6 minutes) you’ll be able to tell that the title and the word “OWNS” may be accurate. Accurate in the sense of the prideful attitude of the Christian, not that he destroys their argument.

In this video, 2 white Mormons on bikes approach a seemingly innocent black gentlemen in a Burger King parking lot. To their surprise though they end up approaching a passionate and somewhat embittered believer in the Bible. And he seems to have some knowledge of the Mormon faith and of the Word too. The black guy does make some valid points and a good case as to his own faith. He even makes a good case about the typical approach and conversation style of Mormons. Although at one point, the Mormon on the right does seem to press hard on his agenda (that of come and teach and talk instead of listen and dialogue). To this the black man responds with some hostility and passion. And his words end up slapping him back in the face toward the end as he totally disses both of the Mormons and leaves a final commentary of the conversation at the end of the video that sounds very prideful, arrogant, and mean.

Both parties hearts are in the right place but overall it seems like a failed witnessing encounter. It could result in some fruit definitely. But the way the black gentleman ended it seems to show a poor Gospel attitude and lack of humility and love for the Mormon. Despite the Mormons’ approach, he could have still labored with them. However he may have felt no need to continue. Which sometimes is very wise. Oh well, watch and see for yourself and see what you get out of it. Is the black guy too harsh? Do the white guys press too much or not listen well? How’s the black man’s attitude toward the end? Do you detect any pride in him or the Mormons? We all could us a humble orthodoxy in our walk and talk with Christ.

    These are Mormons, not JW’s.

I believe this man was to harsh with these MORMONs not Jehovah witness (big difference but sadly both groups are hopelessly lost). The man did not approach and deal with them in a loving manner, therefore I believe he lost his chance to have an impact on them for Christ. He seemed to know his bible verses, I just think he could have approached them from a loving and genuine concern for their souls and MAYBE he could have planted a seed.

Steve: thanks for the much needed correction. :)

Mark: Thank you too. Yes both Mormons and JWs in fact believe in another Gospel and another Jesus. Indeed the man did not seem to exhibit a 1 Cor 13 love in his witness, however at least maybe the Mormons will leave with some questions as to their hearts and how they approach people. Never underestimate God’s Gospel. It can pierce and draw even through prideful jerks. It was not the best witnessing encounter I’ve ever seen, but offered many lessons in how to handle those we disagree with. We can still disagree with different faiths with love and kindness and humility. Unapologetically expressing and unconditionally loving.

I find it interesting how Christian religions of our day seem to judge who is and who is not saved, correct or worthy of grace and salvation. My friends extend beyond many faiths including Baptists, Mormons, Catholic, Lutheran, Methodists and Jews. If all men (and women) are God’s children then does he not love them all equally? Are Lutherans Christain? If you ask some of my friends they give a qualified yes. Qualified meaning sort of but they still don’t get it. If you ask some of my friends their thoughts on the Jews they go on to say they’re are completely lost even though the Bible called them the “Chosen People.” If you ask some of my friends Mormons are Christain then the response is a quick and absolute “No.” Even though the name of their Church has Christ in it and they believe and teach familiy values of faith, hope and charity or pure love of Christ. If you ask some of my friends are Catholic’s Christain they’ll site how the are evil in perverting the way’s of God. So I ask you one thing. If salvation comes by Grace and comes by receiving Jesus into your heart and saying I believe in Christ how is it that the Catholics, Lutherans, Mormons, Methodists, and all other Christain faiths are not Christain and are not saved? For the Jews, if they’re the Chosen People, Moses included, shouldn’t we be more loving and reaching out to them than any other group? I believe it’s more fear than courage that brings about these negative approaches. Let’s live, love and serve God together and help one another. Debate the gospel tenants with courage, committment and communication founded in a Love of Jesus. This would be my prayer.

I saw this video a while back and found it rather disturbing. The man did more damage to the efforts of those trying to give Mormons the truth than he did any help. Sadly, the two Mormons were probably strengthened in their faith by this man’s approach; counting themselves persecuted for their (false) religion.

    Never Compromise!

i am a mormon i am a christian becouse i am saved by Christ i try to follow his teachings.

the main thing is we should not be saying or judgeing if some one else is a Christain or not that right is reserved for
    our dear Christ and God.

I am sure they feal frustrated with all of us at times like i do my children when they do not obey me i think “how many times have i said …. dont they know what they should do?”

i know that we should love each other. every one alone will be held accountable for thier actions thoughts and deeds on this earth.

we should love each other as we love ourselves … in other words we should not focus on what we think some one should or should not be doing but help people come closer to God and Christ.

i know with all my heart that Jesus was sent to save each and every one of us who will let him in our hearts. that he died for our sins. and is the only way back to our father in heaven. i type that in the name of Jesus Christ Amen

i apoligise if i made any punctual mistakes.
